Frequently
asked Questions
Where is Sogna?
Sogna is in the heart of Tuscany, centrally located in the triangle formed
by the three great Tuscan cities of Florence, Siena & Arezzo. This
area is known as the Valdarno. Sogna is also within the Chianti region
with many great wineries within easy reach.
How many people can sleep in the house
The house is designed to sleep three adults in great comfort. The master
bedroom has a queen sized bed and the second bedroom has a single bed.
Is the house suitable
for children or the infirm?
No, the house is decorated with lovely antiques & a collection of
modern European art, and so there are too many things for children to
break & also too many ways for them to plunge to their death. The
village is terraced and the lanes are all cobbled and as such, are not
recommended for anyone who is not steady on their feet. Ladies should
be aware that Sogna is not really a stiletto friendly area.
What does the rental
fee include?
Absolutely everything is included; utilities, bed linen, towels, heating
and firewood, after stay clean and weekly cleaning for all stays over
one week.
Can I use my mobile
phone at the house?
Yes, all GSM phones will work in the house & throughout the village;
however please make sure that you have your phone set for European roaming
before you leave home. The house itself does not have a landline phone.
What is the nearest
airport to Sogna?
There are direct flights to Florence from most major European cities,
Meridiana airlines fly from London Gatwick to Florence in a little less
than two hours; the house itself is just under an hour from Florence airport.
Many low cost airlines fly into Pisa airport which is a two hour drive
from Sogna. Both of these airports are north of Sogna. Alternatively,
you can also fly into Rome which is a little over a two hour drive to
Sogna.
Do I need a car to
visit Sogna?
Yes, there is no public transportation nearby; also a car is needed to
enable you to visit all the outstanding sights of Tuscany. Please note
that the last portion of the road to Sogna (around 2km) is what the Italians
call a “White Road”; that is to say it is unpaved, but easily
traveled by any normal vehicle, a 4X4 is NOT needed. Cars are available
at all airports but must be booked in advance through all the normal rental
agencies.
Is parking available
at Sogna?
Yes, there are two car parks available for residents & guests with
plenty of spaces.
Where are the closest
shops?
The closest village with any shopping is Ambra (7 to 10min drive), where
you will find a bank with cash machine, two cafes, an excellent restaurant,
fruit shop, butcher, grocery store and a cinema. There is a small supermarket
in Bucine (10 to 12 minutes drive), also in Bucine are a couple of banks
and many small specialist shops and even a main line railway station.
Further a field is Monte San Savino (20 to 25 minutes drive) which is
a beautiful medieval town with a good sized supermarket which (unlike
most other Italian shops) does not close for a three hour lunch. Alternatively,
why not shop as the Italians do; at local markets which move from town
to town; Tuesday is market day in Ambra, whilst it is in Bucine on Wednesday.
Are tennis rackets
supplied?
No, we find that people who play tennis prefer to use their own.
Do I need insurance?
Travel insurance is highly recommended, as with any other holiday.
Why rent direct from
the owner?
Because you pay less, as there are no agency fees involved and because
if you have any questions, who would know more about the house than the
owners?
